NORTHUMBERLAND

We recently explored the Farne Islands off the coast of Northumberland, while on a visit to our grandparents. It was a fantastic day for the boat trip.

It wasn't long before these sea stacks, known as the Pinnacles, loomed into view. They are home to thousands of breeding guillemots, razorbills and kittiwakes.

This is a closer view, but it really stank and was very noisy!

While in Northumberland we also went to see Alnwick Castle, the earliest parts of which were built in 1096. It had some very high ramparts, which wasn't good for me and my fear of heights. The castle has also been in quite a few films including Harry Potter, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and Elizabeth.
